She was previously adopted but brought back into rescue by her owner claiming she had some

personal issues to deal with.  Ally is mellow, quiet, sweet and friendly.  She is great with kids, other

dogs and cats.  She would prefer a simple, quiet home as she is a very docile and a mellow little girl

who loves to cuddle, sleep and lounge.  She greatly enjoys a daily walk and wags her tail with joy

at the site of her leash!  She is a love bug!

Update!!! Ally has a new forever home with a very caring mom who thinks the world of Ally.

She's getting all the attention and love she could possibly ask for :)

Harley

harfindsshade.JPG

Hi, my name is Harley!

I am a five year old Great Dane, I have spots, they call me a Harlequin! My rescue mom would like to place me in a home with little dogs of any type, and if there are big dogs in the house they need to be girls, so we are all safe! At my last home they bred Rat Terriers and Chihuahuas so I am used to being around loads of small dogs.  They also has some kittens from time to time.  My rescue mom says that's very bad, I think she is right! ;) Oh yeah, I love the cats too, I do great with cats!Kids are a hoot and I am very careful and good with them. I was surrendered to rescue suddenly as the result of an ugly divorce.....it was ugliest for me as I got the boot when things got rough.  I was rehomed once before when my first family sold me to my last family because of a relocation, I would really like to not move again and my rescue mommy tells me she wont move me again until she is certain she has found me my final stop! I was purchased from a pet store, yikes!  I was very expensive and I wonder where all the money went, I hope it went to save my mom and dad living at the puppy mill where I was born, but I have my doubts, that place was not my favorite stop!

Update: Harley has been adopted and now lives happily

in Yuma with a great family.

Letters from Harley (spotted beauty above) with help from his new mom and dad! :)

Well, I really like my new home and my new parents!!  We had a rough drive home tho.  Mama said I was a perfect angel... but that dumb truck broke down.  First the air conditioning quit, then the whole thing overheated and we had to stop and use all my nice cool water in that dumb thing called a radiator.  We made it to a little town, and mama got out with me and turned on a water thingy at a gas station and got my feet and head wet so I could cool down.  Daddy worked on the truck....  We made it home, but with NO a/c!  I was SO HOT!  Mama went out into the back yard with me all by myself, but I wanted IN the house.   I just pushed my way in when they went to let a doggie out to meet me.  I didn't care, I was HOT!  So mama and daddy put all the other dogs outside, and I sat under a fan with the a/c down to 72 so I could cool down.
There are lots of nice dogs here.  I like everyone!  I'm the biggest doggie in the whole place, and that is so cool!   There are so many kitties here too!  I have been VERY VERY good.  I have not chased anybody!   I never even growled at anybody!  A couple of the other doggies growled at me at first, but they are little squirts, so I really didn't care.  I just ignored them.  Mama said she was very proud of me!
I got to spoon with mama on the futon and watch tv last night.   I like this futon thing.  I can sleep on it and use her pillow and it's  so comfy!   Mama rubbed my tummy.  I REALLY liked that!!!!
I had to sleep in my crate last night, but it was ok, cuz it's right next to mom where mom sleeps.  I could see her all night.  Some of the kitties slept on a blankie on top of my crate too.  I feel like I have a bunk bed now!  :)
Mama says I am SUCH a good boy!  I get lots of hugs and kisses.   She calls me her sweet baby boy!!  My new dad is real nice too.  He hugs me a lot and even he calls me Mama's Baby Boy!  :)   Boy, they sure do hug and kiss a lot in this house!  I like it tho!!
I really like the food here too.  I am picking it out of the Ol' Roy crap that my other mom fed me.  No more crap-in-a-bag for me!  (That's what mama calls it... haha.)
I get to go to some store called Petsmart today to pick out my own yumies and toys!!   Mama said my first trip will be with just me.  When I make better friends with my new siblings, then we can all go.
I think we are going to go some place where I can run and run and play ball tonight.  Mom said if it's not too hot, she'll take me.  She said I'll have 2 acres (fenced in) so I can really stretch out and run!   My new sister, Bree is going too.  She said it will be good bonding for us.   She said as I get integrated into the pack, more of my new siblings can come play with us too.
I really think I'm going to be happy here!  Thank you so much for saving me, and finding me a new mommy that loves me!
Leans and slobbers and lovies.......
Harley

Shana, We are getting ready to go night night, but wanted to say THANK YOU!  Mama was hugging on me tonight and she told Daddy that she got her Henry back.   I don't know what that means, but mama says she is very happy with her Harley Dude.   Both my new parents are always hugging me and telling me what a good boy I am.  :-)
Tomorrow we are going to try to go meet my new vet.  She says it's just a social visit... no ucky shots or anything.  She just wants me to meet everyone and say Howdy, so I'll realize it's a good place, even if I have to go for shots or cuz I'm sick.
Oh!  I got a new collar too!  It's purple and grey and black.  Mama says the kids in this family wear purple, so now I fit in better.  She says I'm very very handsome.
Well, mama says it's time for bed.  I still have to sleep in my crate, but at least mama is right next to me!

Luvies and leans, Harley

I sure showed Dad this morning, Auntie Shana.    Some loud beeping thing went off at 4:20....  Daddy and all the dogs got up, and dad let me out of my crate to go potty.  Well I crawled in bed with mama and refused to budge.  HAHA!  I sure showed him!   I got to sleep with mama till she got up!
Mama calls me her baby.   I don't have the heart to tell her I'm not a baby, I'm a big boy....  I sure like all these cuddles and belly rubs tho!

Luv Harley

Roy

roy1.JPG

Roy is an 85 pound, beautiful male Golden Retriever.  He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Roy is about 4 years old, still full of energy but he also knows how to calm down and be a rug dog too!

Roy was adopted out to a family in early 2005.  They have since been needing to travel significantly

more and have decided they no longer want the burden of a pet to deal with in the home. Roy is now

safely back in rescue.  He is crate trained, house broken and well behaved.  Roy would like a home with

a family who can spend lots of time with him, he has been boarded and shuffled around a lot lately

and he deserves a stable home. Roy gets along wonderfully with other dogs and kids of all ages.

Roy is also great with cats. He is a big boy and loves to play, love and lean.

He can be a bit stubborn at times so he needs a family that will let him know

what is expected of him and allow him to be an active part of every day life in the home.

Update: Roy has been adopted by a great family that understands

the meaning of commitment and will have Roy for the rest of his happy life-

Way to go Roy!!

newzeus2.JPG

Letter from Zeus's new "perfect" home!

(Zeus show above with his "little" brothers)

Hello Shana,

Here are some pictures of zeus in his new home.

Him and his new brother's are getting along just fine.

They play and chase each other all over the yard.

We took zeus to get him nails trimmed and to the vet for a check up.

He is doing well.

He has started to bark and oh what a wonderful bark it is.

We have discovered that he is very skitish of alot of thing. But hopefully he will

get over that in time.We decided not to contact his previous owner to let them

know that he has found a new home. Reason being is because we think that Zeus

was probably abused when he was little. We cant not read the paper in front of him

or put our belts on for our pants in the morning, he runs like crazy. So what we are

doing is letting him know that he will never be abused again. We are trying to let

know now that it is okay that we read the paper in the mornings and that it is okay

for someone to put on a belt to hold up there pants.

Other than that, he feels and acts like hes been with us forever.

Scooby

scflashprofile.JPG

Scooby really touched our hearts, here's his story complete with a happy ending

Hi, my name is Scooby.  I am in need of a truly special home, I am one fabulous dog!

My family needed to rehome me after purchasing a brand new toy poodle puppy, and deciding I was "too big" to travel around with ease in a little purse with them, and deciding that I was "just too big of a dog" for their home.  For several years I fit just fine in their home, but apparently it is smaller now.  My owner had to rush away from the meeting where she surrendered me to my new rescue friends because she had to "make a nail appointment".  I went with my rescue friends with out a glance back over my shoulder, I was so happy to try something new.

Soon after arriving into rescue I began to demonstrate some odd behavior.  I get along fine with all the other dogs, tiny breeds and large, male and female.  I also love the cats, but my favorite family member is the young child that lives here.  My rescue family got worried because i love the child TOO much, and I try to protect him from the daddy in the family during play time, wrestle or tickling.  It scares me when I think the boy may be in danger or may need my help.  I growled a little and showed them my teeth to show I was upset.

My rescue mommy started to look into my back ground, and by contacting the vet I went to last year for shots and a fecal exam she was able to find out where I had originally come from.  I had only been with my previous family for 2 years, but I am 4 years old.  Through tracing back vets she discovered I had been rehomed with help from the vet's office when my first mom and her kids moved into a domestic violence shelter, apparently a man was involved who did horrible things to the family. I feel like it is my job to protect, and I am learning how to be a dog instead of a protector all the time.  I love my rescue dad, he spends extra time with me and we trust each other much more now.  But, I still worry.  We are working on this, and I am trying so hard.  I am such a good boy.  I have my very own " safe down spot" where my mommy has taught me to go and lay down if I feel threatened or uneasy.  She does not want me to unintentionally hurt the daddy, and I don’t want this either, I like to play and hang with him, but I can't stop my anxiety. Just recently I have left the boys side to go off and play tug with the fuzzy toys with some of the other dogs here.  But I always check back in with the family, and I am a guardian and friend to the boy and to my rescue mom.

My rescue mommy wishes she had room to keep me, I know she does.  I hear her and the rescue daddy talking about it every single night.  They are sacred for me, and I am scared too.  They want me to find the kind of home they fear may not exist.  They want me to find a home with no kid, which makes me so sad because I LOVE kids and am ever so gentle.  Or a home with kids and no man, which also makes me sad because I have lots of male friends and I am very sweet with everyone.  I am just always on guard with men around my family, and my rescue mom does not ever want me to be put in a bad situation where I may mistake fun for fighting or pain and bite some one, that would be so sad because I am such a gentle and well tempered dog.

I know my rescue home will keep me and keep me safe for as long as it takes.  I hear them say all the time how I am such a sweet dog, and not a mean bone in my body, but I might bite if I felt my boy was in danger.  They want me to have a home where I do not feel like I have a "job", where i can just relax and be a dog, so sadly I may be able to bloom if I had no little ones to worry for.  They want that kind of place for me.  Where I am just a dog and a friend with no worries.  They also want me to go to some one who understands my history and will handle me with love and care.

I hear my rescue mom telling friends daily how I am her "favorite".  I am "sweet, smart, easy, even tempered".....I am "healthy, beautiful and kind".  I NEVER potty in the house or chew either like some of the other crazy doggies in the rescue house here.  They are all fun, but some are naughty...not me, I am a gem.

I am learning fast, and eager to please.  Mom says she has never met a dog so quick to do what you ask just to get the smallest little "good boy, I love you" and pat on the head.  Mom also says to her friends "he is not your average black dog" :).

I hope this extra special home comes soon.  I long for a home of my own.  My rescue home is great, but I know I am not settled forever just yet, and I have to compete with many other dogs for attention....my rescue mom thinks I deserve better then that, I have not ever been able to just be a dog and get 100% doted on.

I am neutered, I walk great on a leash, sleep through the night on the floor on a soft pillow right next to the bed where the rescue family sleeps (I am so good I talked them out of crating me at night like the other rescues here), potty outside, keep my paws and mouth off the furnishings, love fuzzy toys to toss, have no food or treat aggression, and have a wonderfully full soft muzzle that I love to rest in human laps for as long as they will let me.  I just need a home with no kids or no man, and no extreme rough housing or horse play please between people, it makes me scared they may hurt one another, and I become a different dog and with draw and growl and feel the need to get involved and stop everything.

My rescue mommy tells me I am getting better and better every day, and she and the dad work with me tons in different situations and with consistency.  But, to keep me safe and ensure I am never put in harms way or put another in harms way, I will need a very specific type of home.  Other pets would be just fine, I love them all, please consider me if you have other pets I can play with and hang with!  I love canine friends.

scoobysleep.JPG

Update: Scooby's been adopted!!!! Hooray! He has a wonderful set of parents

who are very passionate about Great Danes and are all around great people.

newscoob3.JPG

Scooby deserved the best, and he got it!

Families and homes like this are what make rescues

function with hope and a smile!

Thank you Dave and Beth!!

Hulk and Yoda

sphynxcats.gif

Hulk and Yoda are 1 year old male, neutered bald Sphynx cats. they have great personalities

and love the company of  each otherchildren.  They have the classic active Sphynx cat attitude,

they're outgoing and social. These boys were fortunate enough to be adopted together so

they can live the rest of their lives knowing each other, we couldnt be happier!!!

Pepper

Pepper arrived in rescue emaciated, vomiting, and covered in various parasites

after being found as a stray dog by a good samaritan who coaxed her into the car

and immediatly drove her to safety.  We feel that Pepper literally would not have

survived another week, she was so thin and ill.  After some recovery time, her new

family was found, but she was still underweight and struggling with severe food allergies.

Her family got her on a strictly raw food diet and slowly her dull coat became glossy,

her skin stopped flaking, her runny poos became solid, and her appetite increased.

It has been well over a year of good solid consistant love and a strict diet and she has

now filled out to the point that her ribs no longer show and she actually can be considered an "extra

large" breed dog!  She is all health and vigor! Pepper's tale is a prime example of what one

loving family can do to turn around and change the fate of one needy dog.

It has been a lot of money and prep time to provide pep with the diet she needs to remain

healthy, but her mommy says Pepper is well worth it. And Pep repays her family daily by being

an excellent big sister to their new little one and being the ultimate companion dog.

pepandliz.JPG

Pia

Pia has a new lovely home where she gets to be the only baby and get all

She needs a home with ONLY male dogs or NO dogs.

She will fight with female dogs, so absolutely no exceptions.

Update: Jessie found the perfect home and now lives happily in

Tempe with her new Dad!

BB...

BB has a new life with a wonderful set of canine siblings, a pond to lounge by,

and parents who think she hangs the stars!  BB needed a very special family to

help care for her particular health issues that she will have for life, and her

parents took her on with out any hesitation, as they knew she was "the one".

BB2.JPG

Cody

Cody was adopted a family in Queen Creek, Arizona.  He had been displaced five

totally in love with all the visiting grand babies.  He and his mommy a

re a "match made in heaven" and Mr.Otis is one lucky pup!

Bianca's Story

Bianca came into us as a rescue after her family was unable to sell her as

an "in heat and ready to breed" dog.  She was spayed and adopted, and she

is so lucky to get a shot at a real life instead of the life she almost had living

in the back yard and being used for breeding only!  She's a great, happy girl

who is full of personality!

Maddison and Bogart's Story

Maddie and Bogart were living with a caring family in Las Vegas, Nevada.  But because of a unanticipated move and some personal issues her home was no longer able to care for her.

After hearing of Maddie and Bogart, and how despearte their family was to be sure they found safe spot and did not ever end up in a shelter,  we brought them back to Arizona because we felt certain we could find them a good home with one of our "big dog" contacts.

Both are in happy loving homes where they are the center of the universe for their people.  See their letters and pictures below!

We are thrilled we were able to help to connect the loving family who had to give them up with new caring homes where all could be certain they will live out their lives as special family members!

 maddison and bogart.jpgmaddie.jpg

Maddies update....

Maddie is fitting in so well with all of us.  The boys tend to scare her a little sometimes with their high pitched squeals, but she really is warming up to everyone.  Stan is her buddy big time.  Where ever he goes, she follows.  I've caught them both laying on the same blanket in the bedroom from time to time, she loves to be close to him.  We took Stan to the vet about a week ago to get his nails trimmed and shots.  Tony and I didn't even think about either of the dogs getting freaked out but they both did
pretty bad.  Maddie was very upset when Tony put Stan's collar on him to take him to the car, and Stan was upset as soon as they got to the vet.  I really think both dogs thought we were taking Stan to the pound forever. When they got home Maddie's face just lit up with joy, she was so happy to see him she started to cry and bounced around him like he had been gone for weeks.  You can see in the second picture that Stan really loves her too.
Thank you so much for bringing such a wonderful dog into our home.

Chemo the "fuzzy" Sphynx

Star's Story

Star was found as a stray and turned into rescue. Star was severly emaciated and in heat.

After she was not claimed by her owners she was spayed, nursed back to health and to a good weight,

and then she was adopted by the Siegfreid family. Star is the perfect example of why rescues are so important,

to the dogs they help and the people who get to give them new homes.

Star with her new little brother decked out for Halloween fun!

Toby lives happily with Jessy and Emi Raymond! What a loving little guy!

Sammy
sam2.JPG
Sammy (formerly Sweetheart) was rescued by a guardian angel from a life of breeding, living in a dirt backyard
and no human contact or love. She was emaciated and covered in fleas and ticks, which resulted in hair loss.
She spent 3 months at her rescuers house, gained some weight and learned what it was like to be loved.
She never got comfortable around the man of the house though so it was decided that she should be rehomed.
Heather had been wanting a small dog, so it was settled- the Davis gang would add her to their family. She
is doing really well, she's up to 10 lbs now and has a beautiful coat. She loves her daddy (maybe because his
hair is longer than mummys) and her sister Rooby Roo. We're still working on her socialization skills and she
is still very weary of strangers, but she's come along way from where she was.

Simba the Gentlest Giant

Other Happy Endings......

Henry in Yuma
henrytv.JPG
Henry lives happily in Yuma Arizona with his mommy Victoria and all the little doggies

she helps foster and care for as an active volunteer with the Yuma Humane Society.

Henry gets to be loved and lazy after having a very rough life! He retires into ease and comfort!

SAD UPDATE...Henry is now featured also on our "In Memory" page- he had a good last few months though.

Barney's Story
barney.JPG

Barney was found at Apache Junction Animal Control. He was bleeding in his kennel and looked real bad. They said he was picked up stray on a gulf course with multiple gun shot wounds. The had actually been ripped to shreds by some animal and then shot. He had a 4 inch exit wound in his lower abdomen. 4 days after going to the vet he had surgery and had 10 tubes put in for drainage and they sent him home with us with hopes his could fight the infection and recover. He is doing very well and all the tubes have been taken out and the hole in his belly is only half the size it was a few weeks ago. Barney is great with kids, good with other animals house trained, crate trained, and loves to be with you.

BARNEY IS NOW 100% RECOVERED AND HAS BEEN ADOPTED BY HIS FOSTER FAMILY
HE'LL NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING HURT OR MOVED AGAIN!!!!
He has the soul of a SURVIVOR!

Heather's Rooby Roo and Princess Ozra
Ozzy
ozzy.JPG
Princess Ozra (Ozzy) joined our family in Feb of 2003.
We adopted her from the AZ Humane Society.
She is an exotic shorthair and such a sweet thing. Her nickname is Lunchmeat because
whenever we open the fridge she comes running and begs for some lunchmeat.

rooby.JPG
Rooby’s Story

Rooby’s former owners couldn’t handle the 90lb puppy who was all legs and tail.

She was crated most of the time and a loose cannon when let out.

They turned to a local Great Dane rescue that Heather happened to be volunteering for.

Rooby Roo came into dane rescue in May 04, she arrived on a Saturday and was in Heathers

comfy home by Sunday night. “When I saw Roo for the first time, I knew I had to have this beautiful baby.

Her personality and confirmation is so similar to my last Dane, Tesla, who I lost in October of 2002.

I saw so many danes come through the rescue but none of them touched me like Rooby did and I couldn’t

bear to live without her”  Rooby has a big family now- mummy Heather, daddy Randy, brother Aidan,

sister Kelsey and the feline sister, Ozzy. She enjoys visits to the dog park, playing with the kids and her

friend Zoey, and in true dane fashion- lounging on the couch.

Baby Beux

Beux is our new friend Maggie's pride and joy! Maggie purchased Beux after
doing lots of research on Great Danes and spending lots of time talking to
dane rescuers and dane lovers. They chose a great breed and we are so happy
they have joined the ranks. Isn't Beux a cutie!?!
