Lost and Found Assistance

Losing a pet can be a very traumatic experience.  But knowing where to look and how will help to reunite pet and owner much sooner.

1.  Begin by posting a lost or found animal report with the following web sites by using the provided links.  Don't forget to browse the postings to search for a lost/found animal that may be the pet you are searching for or have found.  Always do a broad based search, by trying expanded dates, zip codes, and animal descriptions.

Petfinder.com    http://www.petfinder.com/post/classifiedhop.html

Pets911.com    http://www.pets911.com/services/lostandfound/index.php

2.  Check with and contact your local animal shelter.  Most counties, and some cities, have their own department for handling animal control. This is the entity that is responsible for handling lost and found animals, and this should be one of the first places you look for your lost pet or a posting made by some one looking for the pet you have found.  Some county and city shelters have their own system for filing and providing lost and found reports, others use the web sites with links provided above.  Always contact your local department for farther guidance and to file a report.

* If you live in Maricopa County you will be asked to use Pets911.com to post a lost or found animal.

* Remember that if you live on the edge of a county or a city you will also need to contact the departments of those surronding areas.

* It may also help to contact your local Humane Society for direction and information specific to your area.

Check your local county or city animal control shelter EVERY day for your missing pet

3.  Post Fliers in and around the area that you have lost or found the pet.  Do not forget to leave fliers with local area groomers, vet offices, and any other animal related store or service provider.

4.  Place a FOUND ad in your local newspaper.  It is almost always FREE.  The Arizona Republic , 1-800-699-0732, will run a "found" classified listing at no cost.

5. Contact any and all clubs or rescues specifically related to your pet's breed if the lost or found animal is pure bred.  They may be able to provide you with more resources and can help spread the word quickly.

*For a list of breed rescues please check out our rescue page
